Sage Patanjali defines yoga as chitta vritti nirodha. Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar with his intellectual and spiritual practices has masterminded the techniques which can be used by all practitioners of yoga. “Research based experience” and “experience based research” has helped him in evolving this technique, which is now known as”Iyengar Yoga”. Iyengar yoga is meant for all and is a way of life. The use of props, designed by Guruji , such as wooden gadgets, belts, ropes helps the practitioner to achieve perfection in any asana. Regular practice of ‘Iyengar Yoga’ definitely integrates the body and mind.
About B.K.S. Iyengar

Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja (BKS) Iyengar (1918-2014) was born on December 14, 1918. Guruji was a victim of malaria, typhoid and tuberculosis in his childhood. At the age of 16, he was introduced to yoga by his Guru, Sri T. Krishnamacharya, and he began a dedicated practice journey his illnesses. In 1943, Guruji married Ramamani. She supported Guruji along with her family of five daughters, namely Geeta, Vinita, Suchita, Sunita and Savitha and one son, Prashant. Both Geetaji and Prashantji are supporting Guruji in teaching Iyengar Yoga even today. A fortuitous meeting with the violin maestro Yehudi Menuhin in 1952 was instrumental in introducing the Western World to Guruji. Menuhin was responsible for introducing several luminaries to BKS Iyengar, including the Queen Mother of Belgium.

Guruji’s teachings were first published in 1966 as “Light on Yoga”, which has been translated into 18 languages. Today, he is the author of 14 books.
Guruji was a sincere and committed practitioner. Guruji was the first person to teach a large group of students. He laid great emphasis on precision and alignment, which is followed by his students. He gets students to perform and break barriers. He brings about an automatic transformation in the mind and habits of people. He is the only person to teach the highest aspects of yoga – Atma Darshan through asanas. He continued to practice right up until his death on August 20th 2014, at 95 years of age. The founder of the First Online Iyengar Yoga Festival

Hajnalka Sárig, the founder of the First Online Iyengar Yoga Festival, met Iyengar Yoga at the age of 25 and immediately felt that this was the path she wanted to dedicate herself to.
It was a huge dream of hers to meet Guruji, B.K.S. Iyengar and the Iyengar family.
The summer of 2011 brought a defining moment in her life when she was able to spend a month in Pune. It gave her a huge immense inspiration to return to the Iyengar Yoga Institute over and over again. From that point on, she spent one or two months every year in Pune. In 2015 she received the “Intermediate Junior level II.” certificate.
The outbreak of the pandemic inspired her to convey B.K.S Iyengar’s and Geetaji’s message online with as many Iyengar Yoga teachers as possible.
This is how the First Online Iyengar Yoga Festival was born, with the motto of conveying Guruji’s and Geetaji’s message to Iyengar Yoga teachers from all around the world, and giving them the chance to travel to Pune virtually and have the experience that we all miss so much. That is who invited the most experienced and acclaimed Iyengar Yoga teachers who she encountered with during the 16 years she has been practicing and teaching Iyengar Yoga.
The classes will be taught by the teachers of the Iyengar Yoga Institute, most of whom learnt and practiced with B.K.S Iyengar, and who is the only Iyengar teacher awarded with the highest certificate, the „Advanced Senior level II.”.
